Islamabad (February 11, 2026): Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has indicated that Pakistan may take action against terrorists before the start of Ramadan. He said that terrorist activities coming from Afghanistan have not stopped, and if authorities there are only watching without acting, then they share responsibility.
Speaking on ARY News program “Khabar”, Khawaja Asif said he cannot give an exact timeline but stressed that Pakistan will have to respond as soon as possible.
He explained that some third parties are involved in negotiations and they should understand that delays are causing serious harm to Pakistan. He added that terrorist incidents linked to Afghanistan continue, and if Afghan authorities are simply silent observers, they cannot avoid blame. He said Pakistan is still open to talks, but it is unacceptable for negotiations to take place while attacks happen in Pakistan the very next day.
The Defense Minister also shared that communication with the Afghan Taliban’s interim government continues in some form. He said no formal proposal has been made yet, but if individuals want to return or relocate elsewhere, a solution could be discussed. According to him, Afghan officials have said they cannot provide written guarantees, only verbal assurances. He added that if they truly want peace in the region, then neighboring countries could jointly guarantee stability in Afghanistan, which may also open the door for financial support.
Talking about former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khawaja Asif said his long political career is proof of his experience. He mentioned that the public has seen his political strength in the years 1993 and 1999. He added that their party has not compromised on its principles.
Regarding the current national situation, the Defense Minister said the military is supporting the civilian government and that this cooperation is part of governance. He emphasized that soldiers are sacrificing their lives in the fight against terrorism, and both political and military institutions must stand together. He said this is a war against terrorism, and it must be won jointly.
He further stated that the government is working effectively and provinces are gradually coming together on key issues. At the very least, he said, the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government must remain united against terrorism, even if political disagreements continue in other matters.
