(November 10, 2025): Famous educationist, intellectual, and human rights activist Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra has passed away.
Dr. Arfa had been unwell for the past few days. Her death has deeply saddened the education and literary community. She was one of Pakistan’s most respected thinkers. Throughout her life, she worked for education, women’s rights, cultural heritage, and the promotion of the Urdu language. She belonged to Lahore.
Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra completed her B.A (Honors) from Lahore College for Women University, her M.A in Urdu from Government College University Lahore, and later earned another M.A in Asian Studies and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA.
Services and Achievements
Dr. Arfa was a strong voice for human rights, gender equality, Urdu language promotion, and educational reform. She could speak seven languages and loved books deeply. She often inspired young people to create a literary movement in their national language.
She received several major awards, including the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (2025), Fatima Jinnah Award, International Sufist Award, and served as a UNESCO Chair Holder (2021–2025). She was also honored in the UAE for her contributions to literature and culture.
Dr. Arfa was active on social media and never hesitated to share her thoughts openly. Many of her videos went viral because of her fearless and honest opinions. Her life truly reflected her dedication to education, truth, and social justice.
