Lahore (22 September 2025): Pakistan has officially complained to the ICC about umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge over the controversial dismissal of national batter Fakhar Zaman.
During the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match played in Dubai between Pakistan and India, the third umpire’s decision to give Fakhar Zaman out sparked a heated debate.
According to sources, Pakistan’s team management lodged a complaint with the TV umpire after the controversial dismissal. Following the match, even the captain gave a negative report about the TV umpire’s decision.
Sources also said that in the post-match report, the Pakistani team management highlighted the controversial decision. They also expressed concerns to ICC umpires and managers, saying the decision had affected Pakistan’s position in the match.
The incident happened on the third ball of the third over of Pakistan’s innings. Fakhar Zaman tried to drive an off-cutter from Hardik Pandya. The ball took an edge and went towards wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.
Because the ball was very close to the ground when it was caught, the on-field umpires referred it to the third umpire. Fakhar Zaman believed the ball had touched the ground, so he waited for the decision.
After watching multiple replays from different angles, third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge gave Fakhar Zaman out. Fakhar stood surprised for a few moments and then walked back to the pavilion.
On his way back, he discussed the decision with head coach Mike Hesson and looked shocked at the outcome. The dismissal quickly became a hot topic on social media, sparking debates among fans.
