Islamabad (20 September 2025): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has collected data of people who show off their wealth on social media.
According to details, FBR has gathered information of around 100,000 wealthy individuals. Action will also be taken against non-filers who spend huge amounts of money on weddings.
Sources say that FBR has started collecting the data of those who show their luxury lifestyle on social media but do not file tax returns. Actions against them will officially start from 1st October.
FBR, with the help of its special “social media lifestyle monitoring team,” has prepared full lists of such people. Complete data of wealthy individuals showing off their expensive life online has been compiled.
According to sources, anyone who displays their wealth on social media but does not submit tax returns will come under the radar of tax authorities. The tax officials will check the tax records of people showing expensive cars, luxury motorbikes, costly boats, and other high-value items online.
Sources from FBR said that people showing off expensive bungalows, flats, farmhouses, costly clothes, jewelry, and watches but not filing returns will also face action. It was revealed that wedding suits worth $20,000 are being worn, yet this lifestyle is not shown in income tax returns.
Sources added that even those who throw cash at wedding functions but fail to submit tax returns will face action. NADRA has fully supported FBR in identifying such individuals.
According to the sources, FBR has already gathered details about these people’s spending habits, credit and ATM cards, and foreign travel. The FBR said the last date to file income tax returns is 30 September and there will be no extension.
