Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved another extension for the free car smoke emission testing service. Now, citizens can benefit from this service until August 31, 2025, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel On Wednesday.
Earlier, the free Emission Testing System (ETS) service was set to end on June 30. After that, the government had planned to shift the responsibility of smoke testing to private car dealerships across Lahore. But with the new extension approved by the Chief Minister, people now have more time to get their vehicles tested without any cost until the end of August.
Previously, the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change, Raja Jahangir Anwar, said that once the free service ends, all ETS-related operations will be handed over to authorized car dealerships in the city. These dealerships will have ETS machines and trained staff to carry out the tests. Citizens will have to pay Rs. 400 per test.
The department had emphasized that the main purpose of this strategy is to improve the vehicle emission testing process and help reduce air pollution in Lahore. Raja Jahangir Anwar also mentioned that giving this responsibility to private dealerships will improve efficiency and make the process easier for car owners.
