Due to the changing security situation around the world, countries are increasing their defense budgets. In 2024, global military spending reached a new high, with the United States at the top. China came next with $305 billion, and Russia spent $80 billion on its military. In the region, India spent $75 billion, Saudi Arabia spent $68 billion, and the United Kingdom spent around $74.9 billion. Among European countries, Germany had a defense budget of $66.8 billion, while France spent $61.3 billion, Japan $50.2 billion, and South Korea $47.6 billion.
Compared to these countries, Pakistan’s defense budget is lower. Pakistan spent around $9 billion on defense, which is a little over 2% of its GDP. Pakistan’s military strategy mainly focuses on border security, the fight against terrorism, and getting modern defense equipment.
Experts believe that even though Pakistan’s budget seems small, it is still suitable when we look at its smart planning and the security threats in the region.
These global numbers clearly show that military preparations are increasing fast across the world.
