Electricity users in Pakistan have finally received some relief. The federal government is planning to reduce the basic electricity tariff by Rs. 1.16 per unit. The cabinet has approved this decrease for the entire country. Officials from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) have already informed NEPRA about the plan, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel On Monday.
According to the details, the new tariff rates may start from July 1, 2025. The Power Division has already submitted a request to NEPRA for a uniform tariff across the country.
For domestic consumers, the highest electricity rate will come down from Rs. 48.84 to Rs. 47.69 per unit.
For protected domestic users using 1 to 100 units, the rate will drop by Rs. 1.15, bringing it down to Rs. 10.54 per unit.
For 101 to 200 units, the rate will also reduce by Rs. 1.15, becoming Rs. 13.01 per unit.
For non-protected domestic users using 1 to 100 units, the tariff will fall by Rs. 1.15, going down to Rs. 22.44 per unit.
Those using 101 to 200 units will see a reduction of Rs. 1.16, making the new rate Rs. 28.91.
For 201 to 300 units, the new rate will be Rs. 33.10 after a cut of Rs. 1.16.
People using 301 to 400 units will get a reduced rate of Rs. 37.99, and for 401 to 500 units, the new tariff will be Rs. 40.22 both getting a reduction of about Rs. 1.14 to Rs. 1.16.
Those who use 501 to 600 units will see their rate drop to Rs. 41.62, while 601 to 700 units will now be Rs. 42.76 per unit.
If you use more than 700 units, the rate will now be Rs. 47.69, reduced by Rs. 1.15.
However, after taxes and fuel adjustments, the final per-unit cost may be a bit higher.
For lifeline domestic users, the lowest-income group:
- Up to 50 units will still be charged at Rs. 3.95 per unit
- From 51 to 100 units, the tariff will stay the same at Rs. 7.74 per unit
