Government Makes Major Decision to Provide Affordable Meat to the Public

Lahore (October 23, 2025): The government has proposed a ban on the export of mutton, beef, and chicken to make meat cheaper for the people.

According to sources in the Ministry of Production, the government wants to provide affordable meat to citizens after floods damaged agriculture and livestock across the country.

The sources said that because livestock has been badly affected, the government is considering a temporary ban on the export of mutton, beef, eggs, and chicken. By stopping exports for a short period, prices inside the country may come down.

Officials from the Ministry of Production added that the rising meat prices have also affected chicken rates. At present, mutton is being sold between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000 per kg. In Lahore and other major cities, it is not being sold at the official prices.

They further said that the official rate for beef is Rs 800 per kg and for mutton Rs 1,600 per kg. If the export ban is imposed, the prices could drop. However, exports of meat to Middle Eastern countries are still continuing.
