Government saves Rs 9.5 billion after introducing the E-Office system

The federal ministries and departments have started reducing their expenses after shifting to the e-Office system.

According to IT Minister Shaza Fatima, the federal government saved Rs 9.5 billion in just one year. The major savings came from cutting down the use of stationery, paper, and other office supplies. She said the end of paper files has increased transparency and improved overall performance.

Shaza Fatima explained that when all ministries and divisions fully adopted e-Office, financial management became stronger. She confirmed that the federal level now operates with a 100% paperless e-Office system, and all official work is done digitally.

The IT minister said the Prime Minister can directly monitor the progress of every government file from his dashboard. Any file facing delays automatically turns red on the system. Out of 450 departments and regulatory bodies, around 300 have already moved to e-Office.

She added that after signing an MoU with the Supreme Court, the country’s top court has also shifted to e-Office. According to AGPR, the first year of e-Office alone brought Rs 9.5 billion in total savings. The system has also made around 60% of lower-level staff positions unnecessary due to reduced manual work.

Shaza Fatima said that digital workflows have lowered the need for stenographers and dispatch staff. The government is now preparing re-skilling and up-skilling programs for affected employees. Training in AI and digital tools will help them become employable again.
