Gaza (27 September 2025): Hamas has sent a clear message to Israel and the world that it will not step back from Gaza, saying it has already paid a heavy price for its actions.
According to Al Arabiya, Hamas leader and senior negotiator Ghazi Hamad told CNN in an interview in Doha, Qatar, that the group refuses to leave Gaza. Two weeks ago, Hamad narrowly survived an attack on a Hamas delegation in Doha.
Hamad rejected taking responsibility for the damages in Gaza after the October 7 attacks, but he admitted that Hamas suffered heavy losses. He said, “We have paid a heavy price after October 7; there was no other option.”
Almost two years after Hamas fighters attacked Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages, Hamad made it clear that Hamas does not regret the operations or their deadly consequences.
The Hamas leader added that the deaths of tens of thousands of people in Gaza have highlighted the Palestinian cause even more. He reiterated that Hamas will not step back, but if a Palestinian state is established, Hamas’ weapons will be handed over to the Palestinian army.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a “peace plan” to end the war in Gaza. The 21-point plan was presented on Tuesday in New York during a meeting at the UN General Assembly with Trump, Vatikoff, and several Arab and Islamic leaders.
The plan includes the release of all remaining hostages, a permanent ceasefire, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the establishment of a governing mechanism without Hamas. It also proposes creating a security force including Palestinian, Arab, and Islamic officials.
At the same time, Tahir Al-Nono, media advisor to the head of Hamas’ political bureau, said that despite opposition from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Palestinian state will be established with Arab and international support.
He added that Netanyahu forcing his own delegation to clap during speeches, showing his frustration by using loudspeakers over tanks and military vehicles in Gaza, is a sign of his “delusions of grandeur” and sadness.
