Both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari shared their messages on World Hepatitis Day. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is working together with the global community to fight this disease.
He said that viral hepatitis is a global health challenge, and Pakistan is one of the countries where Hepatitis C cases are alarmingly high. Many people suffering from Hepatitis B and C remain undiagnosed and untreated. Because of this, the government has started a national program to end this disease. Under this plan, 16.5 million people will be screened by 2030, and those who test positive will get free treatment.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message, said that hepatitis is a serious public health issue in Pakistan. This disease is often discovered only after the liver has been badly damaged. However, if steps are taken on time, it can be treated successfully.
He also said that poor medical facilities are causing more people to get infected. He stressed that we all must take responsibility and work together for a healthy Pakistan.
