Lahore: The capital of Punjab, Lahore, has been hit by a powerful rain spell that has continued non-stop for 8 hours. A new record has been set with an average of 136 mm rainfall in the city, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel on Thursday.

According to details, heavy monsoon rain has caused serious problems in low-lying areas, which are now underwater. The strong spell of rain has been going on for hours, and many parts of the city are affected.

Weather experts are calling it a “century rain”, meaning it’s a rare and intense monsoon event that clearly shows the power of this year’s rainy season.

In areas like Samanabad, the streets are looking like rivers, making it very hard for people to move around. The highest amount of rain was recorded in Nishtar Town with 178 mm, followed by Iqbal Town and Pani Wala Talab where 175 mm rainfall was noted.

Other rainfall measurements include:
Lahore City: 115 mm, Lakshmi Chowk: 110 mm, Chowk Na Khuda & Samanabad: 109 mm, Nishtar Town: 108 mm, Farukhabad: 102 mm, Gulshan Ravi: 98 mm, Gulberg: 97 mm, Qurtaba Chowk: 96 mm, Jail Road: 94 mm, Mughalpura: 87 mm, and Airport: 33 mm.

Drainage work is currently underway in flooded areas. WASA teams and officers are working in the field to remove water from the streets.

Heavy rain is still falling in intervals across Lahore, and it has badly affected daily life in the city.

The Weather Department has said that this rain spell will continue. The second phase of the monsoon rains is expected to last until July 13.

The PDMA (Provincial Disaster Management Authority) in Punjab has requested citizens to stay away from weak houses, old buildings, and electric poles or exposed wires, as more rain may cause accidents.

People living in low-lying areas have been told to be extra careful. Rescue teams and WASA workers have been ordered to stay active and speed up water drainage.

The Meteorological Department also warned that more rain is expected in Lahore and upper Punjab in the next 24 to 48 hours. This could lead to flooding in some areas.

Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and keep checking rain alerts for their safety.
