Historic Drop in Gold Prices After Record Highs

Karachi (October 2, 2025): After weeks of historic highs, gold prices have finally witnessed a significant drop both in local and international markets. The international gold rate declined by $25 per ounce, marking a notable shift in the precious metal’s upward trend.

According to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Association, the decline in global prices has directly impacted Pakistan’s gold market as well. The local gold rate per tola has dropped by Rs. 2,500, bringing the new price down to Rs. 407,778 per tola.

Similarly, the price of 10 grams of gold has fallen by Rs. 2,144, now standing at Rs. 349,603, while in the international market, gold is being traded at $3,865 per ounce after the recent decrease.

Gold has traditionally been considered a safe investment, especially during periods of inflation, political uncertainty, or economic instability. Its value often rises when confidence in other assets declines, making it a preferred choice for investors seeking security.

For centuries, gold has served as both a currency and a symbol of wealth, providing stability in uncertain times. Whenever investors feel unsure about other financial instruments, they often turn to gold as a reliable store of value.

It is worth noting that last year, Pakistan revised its gold pricing mechanism, linking it to the international market rate but setting it $20 per ounce higher than the global price. This adjustment aimed to align local market dynamics with global standards while maintaining a margin to cover import and transaction costs.

In summary, the latest drop marks a temporary relief for buyers but serves as a reminder of how sensitive gold prices remain to global market shifts and economic fluctuations.
