Karachi (21 February 2026): Former Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and well-known religious scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman has announced the official amounts for Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (Fitrana), Fidyah for fasting, and Kaffarah for breaking a fast for Ramadan 1447 Hijri (2026).
Mufti Muneeb said that the minimum amount of Fitrana this year has been fixed at 300 rupees per person. He explained that this minimum amount is based on the value of wheat. However, he advised people who are financially strong to give according to higher standards such as barley, dates, or raisins so that the poor can receive better support.
According to the wheat calculation, the price of two kilograms of flour is about 300 rupees, which equals the Fitrana amount and the Fidyah for one missed fast. If someone chooses to pay according to barley, the amount for four kilograms comes to 1,160 rupees per person. Based on four kilograms of dates, the amount becomes 2,800 rupees, and according to four kilograms of raisins, it reaches 7,200 rupees per person.
Regarding Kaffarah for deliberately breaking a fast, Mufti Muneeb explained that the Islamic ruling requires feeding 60 poor people two meals each. If someone wants to pay the amount in cash, it would be calculated as follows:
- 18,000 rupees based on wheat
- 69,600 rupees based on barley
- 168,000 rupees based on dates
- 432,000 rupees based on raisins
He also clarified that Fidyah is only for people who are permanently ill or extremely elderly and cannot fast at all, with no hope of recovery in the future. Temporary patients or travelers who miss fasts due to illness or travel must make up those fasts later. They cannot replace them with Fidyah.
Mufti Muneeb further stated that if someone breaks a fast intentionally without a valid religious excuse, Kaffarah becomes compulsory. In that case, the person must fast continuously for 60 days and also make up the missed fast. If the person is physically unable to fast for 60 days, then he or she must pay the financial Kaffarah amount instead.
