Karachi and Lahore Traders Announce Strike Today, Markets to Remain Closed

Karachi and Lahore Chambers of Commerce have announced that they will observe a strike today and keep business centers closed, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel on Saturday.

The President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce, Javed Bilwani, said that all business markets in Karachi will remain closed today. He warned that if the issue is not solved, traders will start protests.

Bilwani explained that they asked the government team for a written assurance, but nothing was given in writing. If nothing is given even in the next meeting, then they will call for another strike.

He also said that traders can go for a strike one or two more days in the same week, and if their demands are not accepted, then the strike can continue for the whole week.

The Karachi Chamber President added that the strike will remain peaceful in Karachi and across the country.

Lahore Chamber President, Mian Abu Zar Shad, also announced a strike today. He said he will join the traders’ protest, and different traders’ organizations will also join the strike tomorrow.

He further stated that traders do not want promises anymore, they want action from the government.

Earlier, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) said that the business community across the country had decided not to go on strike.

Meanwhile, the Chambers of Commerce of Sialkot, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala announced that they have postponed the strike planned for July 19 (tomorrow).

Similarly, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala Chambers also announced they will not go on strike. It is important to note that the traders are protesting against Article 37A of the Finance Act.
