Mohammad Yousuf Says He Resigned Because of Babar Azam

Lahore: Former Pakistan cricket captain and legendary batsman Mohammad Yousuf has revealed that he had to resign from his position because of issues related to Babar Azam.

Speaking openly, Yousuf said that there was a time when Babar Azam was not in good form. He suggested giving Babar a break from the team so he could work on improving his performance. However, he said that many people opposed his idea.

“Everyone reacted strongly and said, ‘How can we drop Babar? How can we give him rest?’” Yousuf shared. He explained that the situation became difficult, and eventually he decided to resign. “I said fine, I will step down. You can handle things the way you want,” he added.

Yousuf further stated that Babar’s batting technique had weakened and that he had not been scoring consistently for almost three years. According to him, giving Babar some rest and sending him to the academy to improve his technique would have helped him return stronger.

The former captain also revealed that his resignation was not accepted at first. However, he submitted it again and finally resigned after his third attempt.

It is important to note that earlier, after Pakistan’s defeat against India, Mohammad Yousuf had criticized the national squad. He had said that the time of players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan might be over, and that the team now needs fresh talent. He added that Pakistan’s T20 team does not need easy wins against weaker teams, but instead requires new performers who can deliver consistently.
