PIA Management Offers Talks to Aircraft Engineers

KARACHI (November 5, 2025): The management of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has made contact with the Aircraft Engineers Association to resolve their ongoing issues.

According to sources, the PIA management has offered negotiations to the engineers. Both sides have agreed to communicate, and the national airline has assured the engineers that all matters can be solved through discussion.

PIA officials have requested the engineers to clear planes that are needed for urgent flights. Sources said the engineers have agreed to provide clearance for these necessary flights.

It’s important to note that due to the engineers’ protest, PIA’s flight operations across the country have been stopped. The disagreement between the engineers and the management has caused several flights to remain grounded. Leaders of the Society of Aircraft Engineers of Pakistan (SAEP) have said they will not return to work until the attitude of PIA’s CEO improves.

For the past two and a half months, the engineers had been performing their duties while wearing black armbands in protest. SAEP sources said that despite a long and peaceful protest, the airline’s management did not agree to hold talks. The engineers demand that their salaries, which have been frozen for eight years, should be increased and that the shortage of aircraft spare parts must be resolved.

The engineers revealed that they are pressured to clear planes for flight even when they do not meet safety standards. They claimed that management asks them to compromise on safety instead of replacing faulty parts. Sources also said that a few days ago, an engineer was beaten for refusing to clear a flight to Canada that violated regulations. SAEP members said they will not risk passengers’ lives under pressure and clarified that they are not against privatization — in fact, they strongly support it.

Meanwhile, the PIA management has started looking for replacement engineers. They stated that SAEP has no legal status and that the current movement aims to disrupt the privatization process, which is now in its final stages.
