Political leaders criticize government over increase in petrol prices

Islamabad: Political leaders have strongly criticized the government after the recent rise in petrol prices.

According to details, the latest increase in petroleum product prices has triggered strong reactions from several political figures. Many leaders said the government’s decision will add more pressure on ordinary citizens who are already struggling with inflation.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the government is currently collecting almost 100 rupees tax per liter on petroleum products. He argued that instead of reducing the burden on the public, the government has increased fuel prices further. According to him, such an increase will badly affect the middle class.

Similarly, Syed Imran Shafqat also criticized the decision. He said that raising petrol prices by 55 rupees per liter at once is unfair to the public. He added that the government is blaming global conditions, but the reality is that petrol has not yet been purchased at the new international prices.

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq also expressed strong concerns over the issue. He said the government should cut down its own luxuries and unnecessary expenses instead of increasing petrol prices. In his view, reducing non-development spending could provide some relief to the people suffering from rising costs.

Meanwhile, political leader Nadeem Afzal Chan also questioned the situation. He said that whenever there is a crisis—whether war, a pandemic, or economic difficulty—it is always the ordinary people who are forced to make sacrifices, while the privileges of the elite remain untouched.

After these statements from different political leaders, the increase in petroleum prices has become a major topic of political debate across the country.
