Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has offered the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to support a no-confidence motion against the current government.
Former Speaker of the National Assembly and PTI leader Asad Qaiser said that if PPP is serious, they should bring a no-confidence motion and PTI will fully support it. He added that PTI welcomes PPP’s “friendly fire” against the government.
It is important to note that PPP is still unhappy with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s recent remarks. The tension grew when PPP members walked out of the National Assembly on Friday in protest. Government members later convinced them to return to the house.
PPP leader Naveed Qamar said that they had met with the government team, but nothing has changed. He added, “Our money, our water, our choice — what does that even mean? This country belongs to everyone.” He announced that the party will continue to boycott assembly sessions until the issue is resolved.
After attending the National Assembly session, PPP decided to walk out again. According to PPP sources, Raja Pervez Ashraf will speak on a point of order to express the party’s reservations.
Sources also said that Raja Pervez Ashraf plans to talk about the current political situation. After his speech, PPP members will walk out of the assembly once again.
Raja Pervez Ashraf said it is not possible to sit in the assembly under these conditions. He stated that things will not improve until the Punjab government apologizes. He also mentioned that the security of PPP’s parliamentary leader in Punjab has been withdrawn, which has added to the tension.
The dispute started after Maryam Nawaz’s statement about the canals. Since then, both PPP and PML-N leaders have been trading harsh words against each other.
Recently, Sindh’s senior minister Sharjeel Memon criticized the Punjab government led by Maryam Nawaz. In response, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said, “Keep your local body election deadlines to yourself. Elections in Punjab won’t be fake like the ones in Karachi.”
Azma Bukhari also added, “You are trying to create fights in another province by force. When we say ‘My water, my choice,’ it’s just like your slogan ‘Marsoon Marsoon Pani Na Desoon’ (we’ll die but not give water). If you keep attacking Punjab and talking about water all the time, that won’t work anymore.”
