Lahore (October 16, 2025): Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has taken a bold and historic step to maintain the rule of law and state authority in the province.
A special meeting on law and order was held under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. In the meeting, it was decided that the Punjab government will recommend the federal government to officially ban an extremist group.
It was also decided that people involved in spreading hate, creating unrest, or breaking the law will be arrested immediately. Those responsible for the killing of police officers or damaging government property will face cases in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
The meeting also decided that the leaders of the extremist group will be added to the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act. All properties and assets belonging to this group will be handed over to the Auqaf Department. There will be a complete ban on the group’s posters, banners, and advertisements.
The government also decided to shut down all social media accounts of the extremist group and freeze their bank accounts. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the Loudspeaker Act. Additionally, the Punjab government has decided to bring Afghan citizens into the tax system and will prepare real-time data of all illegal Afghan residents.
The meeting also decided to introduce a Whistleblower System to identify illegal immigrants. A combing operation will be launched against illegal residents and their businesses, while the identity of anyone providing information will be kept secret.
It was also decided that all foreigners living in Punjab illegally will be deported immediately according to the federal government’s policy.
The Punjab government has also ordered a province-wide operation to recover illegal weapons. The Home Department of Punjab has given one month’s time for citizens to submit any unregistered weapons.
According to the official statement, citizens have one month to register their legal weapons at the Khidmat Center. The government also ordered inspection of weapon sellers and dealers’ stock. Furthermore, issuing new weapon licenses has been completely banned in Punjab.
The Punjab government has recommended the federal government to regularize weapon factories and manufacturers. It has also approved an increase in punishment for keeping illegal weapons, now the punishment will be 14 years in prison and a fine up to 2 million rupees. The crime has also been declared non-bailable.
