Putin’s Strong Reply to Trump Calling Russia a ‘Paper Tiger’

Moscow (3 October 2025): Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a sharp response to US President Donald Trump after Trump called Russia a “paper tiger.”

Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Group in Sochi, on the Black Sea, President Putin said that Russian forces are advancing on all fronts in Ukraine, while nearly the entire NATO alliance, led by the United States, is opposing Russia.

Putin asked, “What is a paper tiger? Go and deal with this paper tiger. If we are fighting against the whole NATO bloc and still advancing, then if we are a ‘paper tiger,’ what does that make NATO?”

He further said, “If anyone still wants to challenge us on the battlefield, they can come forward, but Russia’s response will be swift. Russia is not a paper tiger, and NATO should understand this fact.”

Putin also criticized NATO members for providing Ukraine with intelligence, weapons, and training. He said that Western countries are only using Ukraine for their own purposes and called NATO’s claims about preparing for Russian attacks nonsense.

He warned that supplying missiles to Ukraine could make the war more serious. The Russian President expressed disappointment over Europe’s military preparations and said Moscow is closely watching these developments.

Putin added that Russia’s countermeasures would be immediate and fast. He said European countries themselves do not believe Russia will attack them. Addressing Ukraine directly, he warned Kyiv to stay away from Russia’s nuclear facilities.

For context, US President Donald Trump had earlier said that Ukraine could reclaim all its territories from Russia and called Russia a “paper tiger,” adding that its economy is failing.
