Lahore: The Punjab government has announced a cash relief of Rs 10,000 for deserving families during the holy month of Ramadan. Beneficiaries will be able to withdraw the amount through Bank of Punjab’s branchless banking agents and any ATM connected to the 1-Link network.
According to details, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given final approval to the province’s largest-ever relief program, called the Ramadan Nigehban Package. The Rs 47 billion package aims to reduce the burden of inflation during Ramadan and will benefit nearly 10 million people across Punjab.
Under this initiative, 4.2 million deserving families will receive Rs 10,000 each. In addition, monthly assistance for ration card holders has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000.
The government will issue more than 2 million Nigehban Cards, which can be used to withdraw cash and purchase essential food items.
To activate these cards, 136 activation centers will be set up across the province.
The Chief Minister has directed district administrations to personally deliver Nigehban Cards to eligible families at their homes so that people do not have to stand in long queues.
Furthermore, eight Nigehban Dastarkhwans will be established in every tehsil, where 2,000 people will be provided iftar daily with dignity.
In 30 districts of Punjab, 65 Sahulat Bazaars will remain operational, while temporary markets will be set up in other areas to ensure easy access to essential items.
To ensure transparency, a Ramadan Nigehban Dashboard has been developed to monitor the entire process. Officials will also contact card holders by phone to confirm that they have received the assistance, helping to prevent any misuse or corruption.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that no deserving family should feel alone during Ramadan, adding that the government stands with the poor in difficult times.
