New York (25 September 2025): Qatar and Saudi Arabia have announced $89 million in aid for Syria together with the UNDP.
According to Al Arabiya News, on Wednesday Saudi Arabia and Qatar, along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched a joint initiative to provide $89 million to Syria. This money will help continue essential public services in the country.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar said the aim of this support is to keep public services running in Syria. The funds will also be used to pay the salaries of government employees as part of this plan.
Reports say the package is funded by the Qatar Fund for Development and the Saudi Fund for Development. Its goal is to pay part of the salaries of Syrian government workers and make sure essential public services do not stop.
Back in May, Saudi Arabia had already said it would work with Qatar to provide financial help for Syrian government employees. Earlier in April, both Gulf countries joined hands to pay Syria’s $15 million arrears owed to the World Bank.
In April, the two countries paid $15 million on behalf of Syria to settle its outstanding World Bank dues.
