The Standing Committee has recommended removing the 18% tax on solar energy. A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance was held, chaired by Saleem Mandviwalla. During the meeting, the committee members said that some people imported and stored solar equipment before the budget. Then suddenly, the government added 18% tax on solar imports in the budget, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel On Tuesday.
Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla demanded that this tax on solar energy should be removed. He said PIA was given sales tax exemption on leasing new airplanes, which is unfair. If one airline gets this benefit, then all airlines should be treated the same. He warned that if this kind of proposal is approved, it will most likely be challenged in court.
On this issue, the FBR Chairman said that when airplanes are taken as capital goods, it creates difficulties for airlines. He said they will talk to the Attorney General about this suggestion and bring it back to the committee for review.
