A disturbing video showing the early moments inside Gul Plaza after a massive fire has surfaced. The incident took place late Saturday night at the well-known shopping center located in the Saddar area of Karachi.
The video shows people running in panic after the fire broke out. Due to a power outage, several trapped individuals were seen using mobile phone flashlights to find their way out.
In the footage, people can be seen moving in different directions, desperately searching for exits. One man can be heard shouting, “Run outside, leave everything and get out. The upper floors are in very bad condition. The fire is intense.”
The video also shows thick smoke spreading rapidly around the basement area, making it difficult for people to breathe even in the early stages of the fire.
It is important to note that the fire at Gul Plaza, located on M.A. Jinnah Road, was brought under control after nearly 34 hours of firefighting efforts.
The death toll in the Gul Plaza tragedy has now reached 18, while more than 70 people are still missing. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced financial compensation of one crore rupees for each family of the deceased.
According to the Sindh government’s help desk, several women are also included in the list of missing persons. Rescue officials stated that the fire has mostly been controlled and cooling operations are ongoing, while search teams continue efforts to locate missing individuals.
