Washington: Thousands of American troops have started arriving in the Middle East, according to two US officials who shared this information recently. This development comes at a time when US President Donald Trump is reviewing possible next steps regarding tensions with Iran.
Earlier, on March 18, Reuters reported that the Trump administration was considering sending more US troops to the Middle East. This move could increase the chances of military action inside Iran.
Reports say that these troops are coming from Fort Bragg in North Carolina. With their arrival, the number of US forces already present in the region—including Navy personnel, Marines, and Special Operations forces—has increased further. Around 2,500 Marines also reached the Middle East by the end of last week.
Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not share the exact locations where these troops are being deployed. However, they said that such a move had been expected.
The incoming forces include the headquarters of the 82nd Airborne Division, along with logistics units and support teams. A brigade combat team is also part of this deployment.
Sources added that no final decision has been made yet about sending troops directly into Iran. However, this deployment appears to be part of preparations for possible future operations in the region.
