Torkham Border Reopened for Return of Afghan Refugees

Khyber (November 1, 2025): Pakistani authorities have reopened the Torkham border crossing to send back Afghan refugees who were living in Pakistan without legal documents.

The Torkham border, located on the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, has been reopened after 20 days, but only for the return of Afghan refugees. The border will stay closed for regular trade and pedestrian movement.

Earlier, the border was shut down after cross-border firing from the Afghan side. This crossing is one of the busiest in the world, where thousands of people travel daily and large amounts of trade take place between the two countries.

On October 21, Pakistani diplomatic officials told ARY News in an exclusive interview that both countries had agreed to reopen the Torkham crossing soon. They mentioned that if no new issue arose, the border would reopen within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Officials also shared that preparations were already underway. Import and export scanners were reinstalled at the border, and customs officers along with other staff had resumed their duties to manage the operations smoothly.
