Washington: Former U.S. President Donald Trump once again spoke about stopping tensions between Pakistan and India. He said that his tariff policy helped prevent several wars, including a possible nuclear conflict between the two countries.
While addressing the State of the Union, Trump mentioned that Pakistan and India were very close to a serious military clash at one point. He claimed that his administration used trade tariffs as a tool to reduce tensions and prevent the situation from turning into a nuclear war.
Trump stated that when he first took office, the world was not safe during the early months of his presidency. However, he said that by using economic pressure through tariffs, he was able to stop around eight conflicts globally.
He further added that Pakistan and India had reached a dangerous point where nuclear war was possible. According to Trump, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reportedly said that if the war had not been stopped, nearly 35 million people could have lost their lives.
Trump described his tariff strategy as a powerful diplomatic tool that helped avoid large-scale destruction and protected millions of lives.
