US President Donald Trump has once again delayed a possible major attack on Iran after a request from Pakistan’s top leadership.
According to reports, Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked the US to hold back the strike. In response, President Trump said he would extend the ceasefire until ongoing talks are completed.
In his statement, Trump said he has instructed the US military to delay any attack for now. However, he also ordered them to continue the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and remain ready for any situation.
He added that even though Iran’s government is facing serious internal challenges, the US has been requested not to attack at this stage. The delay is meant to give Iran’s leadership time to present a proposal.
Trump further said the ceasefire will remain in place until Iran shares its plan and discussions move forward in some form.
Earlier, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, said that a final decision about sending an Iranian delegation to Islamabad for talks with the US has not yet been made.
He also expressed concern over the US naval blockade, the seizure of an Iranian ship, and recent statements by President Trump. He said Iran entered talks with seriousness and good intentions, but accused US officials of not showing the same level of commitment.
