US Marines Open Fire During Protest at US Consulate in Karachi, Says Reuters

Karachi (March 3, 2026): US officials have confirmed that American Marines opened fire during a protest outside the US Consulate in Karachi on Sunday.

According to a report by Reuters, protesters broke through the outer wall of the consulate building. After the wall was damaged, security Marines stationed inside responded by firing their weapons. However, officials have not yet confirmed whether any protesters were hit by Marine gunfire or if the shooting caused any deaths.

So far, authorities have confirmed that at least 10 people lost their lives during the violent clashes. US officials said it is still unclear whether the deaths were caused by Marine gunfire, private security guards, or local police officers who were also present at the scene.

Reports say that angry protesters were chanting anti-America slogans during the demonstration. Videos circulating on social media show that some protesters fired shots toward the consulate building, after which gunfire was heard from inside the compound. A senior Karachi police officer also confirmed that shots were fired from within the consulate’s premises.

Sindh government spokesperson Sukhdev Hemnani confirmed that security personnel did fire shots during the incident. However, he did not clearly state which security agency was responsible for the firing.

It is important to note that more than 20 people have reportedly died across Pakistan in recent protest-related violence. Following these incidents, the government has imposed a ban on large public gatherings nationwide.

Security has been significantly increased around US diplomatic missions in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. All roads leading to the Karachi consulate have been sealed, and heavy police forces have been deployed in the area.
