Lahore: A new prediction about Eid ul Fitr in Pakistan has been shared by the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council. According to the latest forecast, Pakistanis are likely to celebrate Eid on Saturday.
As per the details, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has released important astronomical data for Eid ul Fitr 2026. Based on this data, there is a strong possibility that Ramadan will complete 30 days this year, and Eid ul Fitr will be observed on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The Secretary General of the Council, Khalid Ejaz Mufti, explained that the Shawwal moon is not expected to be visible on the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2026.
He said that the new moon will be born at 6:23 AM on March 19. However, by sunset, the moon’s age will be less than 13 hours. For the moon to be visible to the human eye, it usually needs to be at least 19 hours old.
Experts also said that there must be at least a 40-minute gap between sunset and moonset for the moon to be visible. On that day, the gap will be around 26 minutes in Karachi and 30 minutes in Peshawar, which is not enough for moon sighting.
According to the report, even if the sky is completely clear, the moon’s age and its short time above the horizon will make it scientifically impossible to see it with the naked eye, binoculars, or even a telescope.
Based on these astronomical calculations, the first of Shawwal 1447 Hijri is expected to begin on March 21, 2026. This means Eid ul Fitr will most likely be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday.
