KARACHI – A big update has arrived for bank users in Pakistan! Starting tomorrow, all mobile wallets and digital bank accounts without biometric verification will be blocked.
According to details, the State Bank of Pakistan’s new biometric verification rules are coming into effect today. Because of this, millions of Pakistanis could lose access to their digital bank accounts and wallets if they haven’t verified their identity yet.
Sources said that the State Bank issued BPRD Circular No. 1 in July 2025, which made biometric verification mandatory for all commercial banks, micro-finance banks, digital banks, development finance institutions, and electronic money institutions.
Under the new rules, account holders who fail to complete biometric verification will have their transaction services suspended from October 25. This includes both sending and receiving money, meaning such accounts will be temporarily blocked for all activities.
Experts warn that these measures could impact millions of accounts, including foreign-currency and Roshan Digital Accounts.
The State Bank said that its new “Consolidated Customer On-Boarding Framework” will now apply to both individual and corporate customers, whether their accounts were opened in a branch or online.
The purpose of these new regulations is to prevent money laundering and terrorism financing, and to make Pakistan’s financial system more transparent and secure.
It’s important to note that the State Bank had already given all financial institutions three months to comply with these new biometric requirements. However, no extension in the deadline has been announced.
